Junction 6 roadworks will be a bright idea
New lights to be fitted
Roadworks are set to begin next week at Junction 6 Hamilton on the M74.
As part of Transport Scotland’s maintenance programme, 34 highmast sodium lights will be replaced with new LED alternatives.
Road bosses say the lights will be ‘perceptively brighter’ and deliver efficiency savings of at least 60 per cent.
The work will be carried out by Scotland Transerv and project manager Iain Flanagan said:“our continued programme to replace the sodium high-mast lights with new energy efficient alternatives is continuing along the sections of the M74 that we manage. This programme of work will see the replacement of dozens of lamps, while keeping disruption to a minimum.
“We have worked with Police Scotland and the local authority to schedule these important works for overnight, reducing the impact on local commuters and businesses.
“Once complete, our part of the M74 will not only be perceptively brighter at night but deliver a significant energy saving on behalf of our client, Transport Scotland.”
Work to replace the highmast lighting will begin on the northbound offslip at 10pm on Monday, November 20, and run until 5am each weekday, overnight until early December.
As workers are lifting masts of 30 and 40 metres into position, the work will be dependent on low wind speeds.
Andy Fraser, Scotland Transerv’s operating company representative, added: “The M74 is one of Scotland’s most important economic arteries, with thriving communities, large employers and tourist attractions along the route.
“That is why we have programmed this significant project, delivering long-term benefits, to be delivered with maximum efficiency and minimal disruption.”
