Police hunt for gunman

A police investigat­ion has been launched after a masked man made off with cash following an armed robbery at a Hamilton petrol station.

The culprit — armed with what appeared to be a handgun — struck at the Jet garage on Strathaven Road around 9.40pm on Tuesday.

A masked man made off with cash and cigarettes following an armed robbery at a Hamilton petrol station on Tuesday night (November 21).

Police have launched an investigat­ion following the incident at the Jet garage on Strathaven Road.

Officers say a man armed with what appeared to be a handgun arrived at the premises around 9.40pm, and demanded cash and cigarettes from a member of staff.

The 55-year-old woman is said to have been uninjured, but shaken by the traumatic experience.

The suspect fled towards Eddlewood following the robbery, and emergency services were called.

Police have issued a descriptio­n of the culprit. He is described as 5ft 8ins to 5ft 9ins and was wearing a scarf across his face, and gloves.

He was also wearing a dark blue or grey hooded top, grey jogging bottoms with writing on the left thigh and black trainers with a white flash – possibly Nike Air Max.
