It’s B*switched!

90s pop group set to light up town

There will be an extra bit of magic at this year’s Christmas lights switch-on in Hamilton.

For helping to enchant the crowds with their classic hits in Castle Street this Saturday, November 25, will be pop group B*witched.

The famous Irish girls will be supported by singing group Christmas Goes Pop, who will take to the stage with their colourful and festive renditions of Christmas classics that appeal to revellers of all ages.

Known for their love of doubledenim, the 90s chart-toppers are back to perform their hits and the Advertiser caught up with Sinead O’carroll ahead of Saturday’s switch-on.

She said: “This will be our first Christmas lights switch-on for at least 20 years.

“It’s always really exciting to be asked, and great to be involved in. I always think a lights switch-on is a real community event and gets everyone together, so it’s really nice to be a part of this.”

The girls will be performing their four number ones (C’est la Vie, Weatherman, Rollercoaster, To You I Belong) and will have a few surprise songs in store for those who attend.

Speaking about her own favourite B*witched songs, Sinead revealed she has a love for two well-known hits.

She said: “We always love the reaction we get to our songs and I do always love performing Weatherman, but I have to say it’s something really special to see a crowd’s reaction when we perform C’est la Vie.

“Even if it’s the first time they’ve heard it, the song gets a great reaction. I never get sick of performing it.”

Sinead has been busy with fellow band members Edele and Keavy Lynch and Lindsay Armaou putting together a new album, as well as juggling family life as a mum of two.

And she says she is looking forward to performing back in Scotland next year on the same bill as Boyzone on July 7 in Edinburgh.

She added: “It’s really weird. We’ve come full circle now, back performing with Boyzone after we supported them 20 years ago. This will be a really big set and another great chance to return to Scotland to perform.

“We love performing for a Scottish crowd.”

Radio Clyde’s Gina Mckie will be on hand at the weekend to act as compere during the afternoon, and a variety of performances from local groups will keep the audience entertained. Santa is scheduled to drop in for a flying visit too.

The festive fun will take place from 2.25pm with entertainment all afternoon, while the main event – the Christmas lights switch-on – will take place at around 5.25pm.

And the official duty of switching on this year’s Christmas Lights will fall to South Lanarkshire’s Provost Ian Mcallan, who said: “What a perfect way to kick off the festive season with family and friends and support the local community.

“There will be lots to do, and I’m sure the entertainment will be fantastic for all to enjoy.

“I hope as many people as possible come along to join in the fun.”
