Readers are far from impressed

- Kirsten Mcstay

The decision to rename Lanarkshire’s three hospitals did not go down well with our readers.

We posted the story online when the news broke and dozens of people commented on our Facebook page.

Lisa Forbes said:“people will still just call them Wishaw, Hairmyres and Monklands.”

Margaret Mcgarvey wrote:“change the names? How much does that all cost for new stationery? They will still be called Wishaw, Monklands and Hairmyres.”

Jackie Mcauley joked:“it will be the first time I’ve ever attended university!”

Erica Law wrote:“i wonder how much money was wasted doing this? What a load of complete rubbish.”

Kirsty Davidson added:“it has always and will always be knows as‘wishy General’. Changing the sign will make no difference!”

Janette Brown said:“what a farce! How much will it cost to change outside signs, stationery, uniforms? Better spending money on more appointments and nurses.”

Christine Gray said:“what a waste of resources. The cost of changing the name could have been better spent saving essential services at these hospitals.”

Margaret Allan posted:“what a waste of time and money renaming the hospitals. No meaningful purpose at all.”

Elizabeth O’brien wrote:“what’s the point in that? If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.”

And Terri Watson quoted Shakespeare, saying:“you can call them whatever you like, doesn’t change what they are.

“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”
