Helping hands Schools will fundraise for African kids
Hamilton Grammar and its five associated primaries are helping children in an African nation.
Beckford, Chatelherault, Quarter, St John’s and Woodside Primary Schools are all taking part in the programme.
And as well as helping youngsters in Uganda, it will work as a transition project ahead of P6 and P7 pupils moving up to high school.
The primaries and Hamilton Grammar will work together on a programme that promotes greater links between all children before starting secondary education, and enable them to become familiar with the secondary school and staff.
They will be entertained by African drumming band Ayawara and hear from Michaela Foster-marsh of Scottish charity Starchild, which is dedicated to helping better the lives of children and adults in Uganda.
The project will citizenship and focus on global sustainability. Children will learn about life in Uganda, comparing their experiences of school life to that of a child there.
In collaboration with Starchild, they will plan and implement an enterprise event and fundraise to help some Ugandan children attend secondary school.
Debbie Mackenna, head teacher at Quarter, said: “We are all extremely excited about participating in this project and to making a real difference to the lives of a group of young people in Uganda, helping them to achieve their hopes and dreams.”
