Dog Training Club over after 70 years

Closure of Cameronian hall forces end of an era

A long-establishe­d Larkhall club has been forced to fold.

Larkhall Dog Training Club held their last meeting on Tuesday, November 14, after they were forced to move premises when the Cameronian hall shut in the town’s Wellgate Street some months ago.

The hall, which had hosted groups since the 1970s, was closed by South Lanarkshir­e Council earlier this year due to concerns over the condition of the building.

Larkhall Dog Training Club, who had used the hall for years, were desperatel­y trying to secure a new meeting place unsuccessf­ul.

Robert and June Logan, of Larkhall, ran the club for years with the help of some others.

The club wrote on their Facebook page: “It is with great sadness I have to inform you that next week’s class, Tuesday, November 14, will be the last ever as the club is closing completely.

“After several unsuccessf­ul attempts to find an alternativ­e venue we thought Chalmers Church might offer a solution. However, this has turned out to be unsuitable for several reasons and unfortunat­ely the difficult decision has been taken to close the club. but have been

“The Larkhall Dog Training Club has been in existence for approximat­ely 70 years with myself and June Logan having the privilege of running the club for the last 40. It has played a large part in our lives and we will miss you all dearly.”

Jean Smith, a member of the club said: “Everyone is very sad and personally I cannot believe it’s the end.

“It has been a great club and they have helped hundreds if not thousands of dog owners lots on how to train their dogs over the years.

“We would all like to thank Robert and June for all their work over the years.”
