Moult’s double delight

-

Motherwell got a perfect pre-betfred Cup final boost when a Louis Moult double gave them a 2-0 win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie, writes Graham Barnstaple.

Boss Stephen Robinson says the players trust what he’s trying to do and formation changes didn’t trouble them.

He said:“we changed our shape and actually changed it three times during the match but I can throw anything I want at them tactically.

“Our boys buy into it and their workrate and desire to learn and be better every day is a common theme around the football club.

“I said all week we would remain focused on this game because it’s a tough place to go to. Derek Mcinnes has put together a great side.”

Dons keeper Joe Lewis was kept busy in the opening 10 minutes repelling shots from Liam Grimshaw and Andy Rose.

Aberdeen went close when Adam Rooney fired wide at the front post.

Motherwell broke the deadlock three minutes before the interval when Richard Tait’s free-kick was headed past Lewis by Moult.

Moult doubled the lead 10 minutes after the break when he got on to the end of a rapid break from defence.

Tait slid the ball down the right to release Chris Cadden, who outpaced Scott Mckenna and Moult met his cross on the half-volley to leave Lewis helpless.
