Cash boost for Haven

Guild honour Marie with donation

- Leona Greenan

A generous donation has been made to The Haven charity from members of Hamilton Townswomen’s Guild, in memory of a former client.

The money was donated in memory of Marie Coyle, of Hamilton, a long-time member of the guild who died in February after a long battle with cancer.

Marie had found great support from The Haven in Blantyre and The Haven in Wishaw.

She had been a hard-working committee member, and was also in the concert party which raised money for local charities by performing for other guilds, and residential homes.

The guild wanted to acknowledge the help that Marie received and the difference that it had made by making a donation ‘In Memory Of Marie’ and after an amazing fundraising night in June an incredible total of £750 was raised.

On the evening, videos of the concert party were shown and it was very special to see Marie perform in these.

Alison Rafferty, treasurer of the Hamilton Townswomen’s Guild, said: “Marie’s family were able to attend and enjoyed seeing clips of her performing on the stage for the first time.

“Through the generosity of our members we were able to raise £750 which was handed over in the presence of Marie’s husband Bill at The Haven in Wishaw.”

Fiona Davidson, Haven nurse, said: “I knew Marie from when she attended Blantyre and she then attended when we opened here.

“It was a pleasure to meet the ladies from the women’s guild, as Marie spoke of them often.

“It was my privilege to have known Marie and I would like to thank the guild and her family for their very kind and generous donation.”

The Haven supports families affected by a wide range of lifelimiting illnesses and relies heavily on the kind generosity of groups like Hamilton Townswomen’s Guild to raise vital funds to support people like Marie.

Stonehouse Male Voice Choir will once again support The Haven charity with an evening of music tomorrow night (Friday, December 1).

All are welcome to enjoy the evening in St Andrew’s Parish Church, Blantyre, where the acoustics are amazing, and an array of popular songs and Christmas music will ensure there is something for everyone.

Tickets are on sale now and only cost £6. These can be purchased by calling 01698 727505.

Lynsay Cooper, Haven communication officer, said: “What better way to start off December by getting yourself in the festive mood and supporting a local charity at the same time.

“Bring friends and family along to enjoy the wonderful vocals, some tasty home baking, and you can also snap up a few extra gifts at our stalls.”
