Larkhall held their first Christmas market in the town at the weekend – and it has been hailed a huge success.
The event was organised by Larkhall Gala Committee and there was lots on offer throughout the evening.
And it is estimated that around 3500 people turned out to show their support.
Debbie Hurles, chairperson of the committee, explained: “We could never have dreamed that Larkhall’s first ever Christmas market would be such a success.
“Larkhall has never seen anything like this before, and I still can’t believe we pulled it off.
“We had a fantastic stage built by Harrison Scaffold and Rigging with music by Graham Kerr, compered by Billy Mcdonagh.
“We had performances from local singers and dancers including TDA, Gemini, and Dance Fusion as well as Nicola Boyle Highland Dancers who were just fabulous.
“Larkhall’s Rising Stars were there with Granny Baltic, Chelsea Springett, Danni Bee and Alana Wilson, who were all spectacular despite the freezing cold weather.
“Piper Haroon Rashid also came along and piped our 2018 gala court onto the stage, as well as our new gala queen and champion.
“We also had performances from Happy Feet and Big Bird Nurseries.”
The event was kicked off with a spectacular reindeer parade, with Santa on his sleigh.
Debbie added: “Bouncexl Larkhall provided us with a Santa’s grotto and inflatables. The Q Lounge provided an outdoor bar area, serving craft beers and mulled wine. And we had several food stalls and 30 craft stalls from hand-made clothing, Christmas decorations, upcycled horseshoes to sweets and hampers.
“It is estimated that around 3500 people turned out, which is just phenomenal. We are totally overwhelmed that we managed to bring a community together.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended whether it was a business, a craft stall, our wonderful volunteers or a member of the public.
“We were so thrilled to see everyone having such a good time, and we really hope we can continue this on for years to come and make it a Larkhall tradition.”
Larkhall Councillor Jackie Burns congratulated the committee members.
He said: “This was one of the bestattended community events held in Larkhall for many years.
“The organisation and planning for the event showed how much effort had been put in to making this day such a success, with many local businesses and groups taking part and local residents turning up in great numbers.
“I look forward to continuing to support the gala committee as they plan for the Larkhall Gala day on Saturday, May 19, 2018.”
