Hamilton Advertiser

Advertiser team celebrates new office

- Shirley Bartynek

After more than 150 years at our Press Buildings base in the town’s Campbell Street, we’ve moved.

Last Wednesday evening, the staff put away the last edition of the newspaper to be produced from the famous old building and we are now in Brandon House, next to Hamilton Bus Station.

To celebrate the occasion, staff welcomed visitors to an open day and celebrated with a cake gifted by legendary Lanarkshire confectionery firm Tunnock’s.

The Hamilton Advertiser celebrated a move into new town centre premises with an open day.

Staff welcomed readers and advertisers to the central location in Brandon House, next to the bus station.

And to mark the occasion, legendary Lanarkshire confectionery firm Tunnock’s sent over a magnificent cake that said ‘Hamilton Advertiser: Serving the community since 1856’.

Hamilton Advertiser editor Robert Mitchell did the honours and cut the cake.

He said: “We are delighted to be in our new office and it has been a pleasure to welcome readers and advertisers alike to our open day.

“The Advertiser is a vital part of life in Hamilton and the surrounding area, and we’re excited to be working on the first edition from our new premises.

“And we are all incredibly grateful to Boyd Tunnock, of Tunnock’s, for sending us over this incredible cake to mark the occasion.”

Last Wednesday evening, the staff put away the last edition of the Hamilton Advertiser that was produced at the Campbell Street headquarters. After more than 150 years at the base, we have now officially moved premises.

Wishing the staff well was the last customer to visit the Campbell Street office, Garry Mccallum.

Garry was placing an advert for his website, Historic Hamilton, and took time this week to place an article about his last visit to our office on his popular Facebook page.

He said: “To all the staff, good luck in your new home and we hope that you have many happy working years at the Brandon House building.”

As soon as last week’s paper was sent to the printers, we packed up and locked the doors of the renowned Press Buildings for the last time since taking up residence there in 1862.

And the first customer at the new Hamilton Advertiser was Blantyre man Liaqat Ali.

Liaqat (60) visited our Brandon House base to buy a paper on Thursday morning.

The dedicated reader has been buying the Advertiser every week since the 1980s.

And he returned to enjoy the celebrations at our open day on Friday.

It has been a pleasure to welcome readers and advertisers
