Golf club raises £30k for hospice funds

-

Bothwell Castle Golf Club were this week delighted to hand over a bumper £30,000 cheque to St Andrew’s Hospice, following a highly successful 33rd annual pro-am event.

Although the club have raised £341,000 for charities over the last 33 years, this was the highest donation ever given in any one year.

The pro-am took place on the last day of the open championship, and whilst raffles, auctions and on-course competitions took place on the day, there were a number of other fundraising events held during the 2017 season which contributed to the brilliant total.

A sportsman’s dinner, ladies’ open day, fashion show, tribute night and various club raffles and auctions helped to raise the £30,000 total.

In addition, eight very brave golfers endured a longest-day challenge, playing 72 holes of golf in one day.

Bothwell Castle Golf Club general manager Keith Grant said:“this evening has always been a highlight of my year, when the pro-am committee take the opportunity to thank all the committee and members from various sections for all their help, hard work and support, in their efforts to raise funds for local charities.

“On behalf of the pro-am committee my thanks go to everybody for giving up their time in both supporting and organising all the fundraising activities during the season, because without all their hard work and efforts no charity donation would be made.

“St Andrew’s Hospice (Patient Care) is the beneficiary of our efforts. As we all know this charity is a very important part of our local community, and has touched the families of a number of members at our club. That shows in the overwhelming support this year.”

The pro-am committee are pictured handing over the cheque to Louise O’donnell from St Andrew’s Hospice.
