We’re rail good ambassadors
These pupils from St Elizabeth’s Primary are on track for success after being made rail ambassadors.
Scotrail and the CRP74 (Community Rail Partnership) group requested the honour for the P6 kids.
CRP74 is made up of people along the train line from Rutherglen to Hamilton who work to improve their communities, funded by Scotrail.
The pupils’ experience began when they were taken to Hamilton West Train Station, where they were able to appreciate a totem pole designed and created by fellow St Elizabeth’s pupils in unison with people within the Blue Triangle Homeless Unit and NHS Beckford Lodge.
After free rail travel accompanied by Suzy Mccheyne, a CRO74 Facilitator, the group arrived at Glasgow Central Station to be met by a community rail officer.
Wearing Scotrail high-viz jackets, the children toured the station singing Christmas songs and posing for photos with transport police.
They then enjoyed a visit and snack in the Virgin Money Lounge, before touring a very festive George Square and enjoying a taste of chocolate churros before returning to Central Station for a shot on the train simulator. The simulator is a facility used by train drivers to refresh their driving skills.
Principal teacher at the school, Christine Emmett, said: “The pupils had a fantastic day being rail ambassadors and were very thankful to CRP74 and Scotrail for the experience.
“The pupils said they had great fun and enjoyed their special treat when CRP74 treated them to a burger before their journey back to Hamilton West.”
