Government reveals new figures
Figures revealed last week, show that over 400 couples tied the knot in South Lanarkshire during the third quarter of the year.
There were 414 opposite sex marriages and 14 same sex marriages. There were no civil partnerships. In North Lanarkshire there were 344 marriages – with 336 opposite sex couples and eight same sex marriages. There were no civil partnerships. The figures were released by The National Records of Scotland and also include the number of births and deaths. And a breakdown of the population shows that there are 656,490 people living in Lanarkshire.
There were 317,100 people living in South Lanarkshire and 339,390 in North Lanarkshire.
South Lanarkshire has 152,995 males (48 per cent) and 164,105 females (52 per cent).
North Lanarkshire had 164,242 males (48 per cent) and 175,148 females (52 per cent).
During the third quarter of 2017, there were 829 live births in South Lanarkshire – with 430 baby boys and 399 girls. There were five stillbirths. And in North Lanarkshire there were 923 live births – 471 boys and 452 girls. There were five stillbirths during the third quarter of the year. Across South Lanarkshire there were 822 deaths in the third quarter – 402 males and 420 females.
In North Lanarkshire there were 814 deaths – 393 males and 421 females.
Of the 1636 deaths recorded across the NHS Lanarkshire area, 490 of them were as a result of suffering from cancers.
Included among the figures, there were also 182 deaths from respiratory system diseases; 51 from Alzheimer’s Disease; 206 from coronary heart disease; and 182 deaths from respiratory system diseases.
There were 33 deaths from falls.
