Drama club youngsters wow audiences with shows

- Leona Greenan

Youngsters from Blantyre Drama Club held their latest show, Grease, at High Blantyre Hall recently.

A packed audience thoroughly enjoyed the performance and got into the spirit from the first track, Grease is the Word, straight through to the encore of Greased Lightning.

Blantyre councillor Mo Razzaq was in attendance at the event and was delighted to present the children with their certificates of merit following the performance.

He also presented Millie Sutherland with the Rising Star 2017award.

Christine Crawford, who runs Blantyre Drama Club, said: “We were grateful to Mo Razzaq our local councillor, who came along to support the group and give the members their merit awards and the award for Rising Star 2017 that went to Millie Sutherland. Well done to her, it was truly deserved.

“In 2018 we’re back to work on Sunday, January 14, which is free to new members, aged 5-15 years who wish to try out the club.

“Fun, friends and silliness is guaranteed as we work towards our next production which will be Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves.

Meanwhile the club performed at Asda Blantyre last weekend, where they sang Christmas carols for the customers and staff who where more than happy to join in the festive spirit.

And their efforts raised £160 for Hamilton’s foodbank. They then attended Kirkton House Care Home and entertained the residents and staff by performing old favourites like Jingle Bells and White Christmas.
