Bon accord frozen out of cup after ground switch

- David Bell

For a fourth successive Saturday the Scottish Cup third round card was virtually frozen out of action.

Only two ties got the go-ahead. But that’s where the good news ended for Shotts Bon Accord, who lost 4-2 to Forfar West End, after officials switched the tie to Forfar Athletic’s Station Park.

Shotts enjoyed a bright start as Danny Burns fired over the bar in the second minute, then two minutes later pounced on a pass from Stevie Aitken to score.

Andy Cross had a shot tipped round a post but Forfar equalised in 19 minutes when Mark Percy scored from the spot.

Forfar went 2-1 ahead in 27 minutes when Robbie George cashed in on a defensive slip.

Aitken had a shot saved in 32 minutes as Shotts tried to get back into the game.

However, Forfar went 3-1 in front in 48 minutes through Andy Walls.

And although Burns broke through the West End defence to make it 3-2, Walls added his second goal in 75 minutes.

Johnny Murdoch, who was voted Shotts’ man of the match by a fairsized travelling support, produced a series of good saves.

But Forfar West End were well worth their victory with an energetic performance against a lacklustre Bon Accord.
