Happy to stop the rot
Motherwell picked up their first point in five games on Saturday as they fought out a 1-1 draw at home to Dundee. Craig Tanner’s penalty cancelled out Paul Mcgowan’s screamer – and boss Stephen Robinson was pleased to ‘stop the rot’.
The Fir Park side were forced to play a big slice of the second half with 10 men as Elliott Frear damaged a hamstring two minutes after coming on for Ryan Bowman in 52 minutes and was forced off in 77.
Robinson said:“the character of the side to effectively play with 10 men for 39 minutes when Frear hurt his hamstring was brilliant.
“We had to battle for 39 minutes and I am really proud of them.
“The back four were outstanding, with Charles Dunne playing probably his best game.
“At least we have stopped the rot after losing four in a row, it was really important we didn’t lose. “It was a massive point with 10 men.” Sofien Mousa showed Dundee’s threat when he clipped the top of the bar with a header in the first half.
Mcgowan fired an unstoppable shot past Trevor Carson from 25 yards two minutes after the interval.
Mcgowan then clipped the bar with a delicate chip two minutes later.
When Mark O’hara clipped Cedric Kipre in the box, Tanner scored from the spot, with Carson brilliantly saving from Josh Meekings late on.
