Power voucher pilot scheme is a big help
Quick credit bonus
Scottish Power has announced the launch of a ‘Quick Credit Voucher’pilot scheme which will help people using foodbanks in Hamilton and Clydesdale.
The voucher is designed to give customers, who are referred to foodbanks and may be in need of fuel assistance, a one-off £49 credit payment.
This builds on initiatives being delivered by the Scottish Power Hardship Fund, which is designed to help customers who are having difficulty paying their bills.
The announcement comes following a meeting with MSP for Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse, Christina Mckelvie, and South Lanarkshire SNP councillor for Clydesdale North, Julia Marrs, who advocated the voucher scheme be piloted within their constituencies.
SNP representative Ms Mckelvie said: “This has been an issue both Julia and I have been quietly working on for our constituents for months, and I am delighted we can now formally announce the voucher scheme.
“The scheme, which will provide those in need with a one-off £49 credit for their energy, will be available at the Hamilton and District Foodbank for customers of Scottish Power.
“Ideally, there would be no need for our constituents to use the scheme. However, as I see more and more of my constituents forced into fuel poverty by the continued austerity drive of the UK Conservative Government, action needed to be taken.
“I’m delighted Scottish Power stepped up and provided humanity, understanding and warmth to those that require it – especially as we feel the chill of winter.”
Douglas Mclaren, of Scottish Power, said: “It is our hope the scheme will provide some extra help for those who need it most.”
