Blake gets with the programme

- Leona Greenan

A Blantyre teenager has put pen to paper and created an all-new football programme for his beloved Blantyre Vics Football Club.

Blake Welsh designs, writes and prints the team’s program, which includes player photos and action shots and a pre-match word with Vics’ manager John Gibson, prior to every home match.

It is the fist time in 20 years that the Vics have had a regular team programme and Blake’s efforts have been well received among the fans.

In fact the 18-year-old has sold hundreds of copies so far and recently donated £1000 worth of takings to Blantyre Vics treasurer Allison Paterson and manager John Gibson.

His proud grandfather George Fulston told the Advertiser:“blake is sixth generation of watching the Vics, and after finding out that the club had not produced a programme for over 20 years, he decided to do something about it for fellow supporters.

“He reached out to family and friends who supported the programme with paid adverts to help get him started and now sells his programmes, totally designed and printed by himself, at every home match at the KG Stadium.

“His efforts are now even being resold on the internet and indeed posted to ex-pats abroad.

“It’s a great effort and he hopes to be able to present the club with more reward from his work in the future. Well done Blake.”
