Greg Docherty helped Hamilton to a first derby win over Motherwell at Fir Park since September 2014 – then said there’s no greater feeling.
Docherty was deployed in a right wingback position and from there he drove through the Motherwell defence to score the clinching goal in a 3-1 win.
The midfielder said “It has happened to us so many times this season that we’ve gone ahead and other teams have come from behind to beat us so it was about time we did that. And I think it was comfortable for the last 10-15 minutes.
“They had a few things and Dougie Imrie made a great clearance with an overhead kick but apart from that I think we defended our box brilliantly.
“And credit to the three centre-backs who were outstanding.
“It probably wasn’t a pretty game for the midfielders but if you come out of a derby with a win it’s fantastic.
“Rakish Bingham latched on to a mistake and superbly finished, which made them come out of the traps a wee bit.
“But we rode that pressure and I always knew that if I got that one break on the righthand side I’d have the legs to get into the box.
“We’ve been working on it in training, to get a ball across goal, and it nestled in the corner, so there’s no greater feeling.”
Hamilton’s win took them to within a point of their Lanarkshire rivals in the Premiership table.
The Fir Park side took the lead in four minutes through a superb Craig Tanner goal, but Dougie Imrie pulled one back
