Win was massive for us

-

Dougie Imrie was delighted as Hamilton ended 2017 on a high with a 3-1 win over Motherwell at Fir Park.

The Accies captain said it was an important win – as it moved them to within a point of their Lanarkshire rivals.

Imrie’s penalty levelled Craig Tanner’s opener for Motherwell before second-half strikes by Rakish Bingham and Greg Docherty sent the points across the Clyde.

Imrie said: “It’s a great way to finish the year off, it was important that we got the three points.

“I thought after they scored there was only one team in it and we scored three fantastic goals.

“The third one from Greg was a fantastic run and finish across the keeper. But for us the really pleasing thing was to go there, get the win and finish the year off with three points, with the break coming up.

“It meant a lot to the players and to the fans. These are the games you want to play in and it’s always good to go there and get the win. The biggest thing for us was the three points.

“I’m not here to silence anyone, I’m just here to do my job, and if I get a goal to help the team that’s the main thing. That’s my job, I’m here to help the team and do my best.

“I got a goal but it’s about the team and we scored three fantastic goals, so the biggest thing for us was the three points.”
