It was all very surreal but we are over the moon he’ s here

A Hamilton couple had an extra reason to celebrate this New Year – after kicking off 2018 by welcoming their new bundle of joy into the world.

Marc Wilkinson and Samantha Poole, of Hall Street, were on cloud nine following the birth of Marc Stephen Charles Wilkinson on January 1.

The beautiful baby boy was born at University Hospital Wishaw at 4.35am, weighing 10lbs and measuring 55.2cm long.

They had spent the previous few days in limbo eagerly awaiting their baby’s arrival as Samantha’s due date of December 19 had been and gone.

And with the Christmas festivities over, the pair were told Samantha would be induced on December 30.

Finally, with labour taking hold on Hogmanay, Samantha and Marc spent the bells in the delivery ward with a soft drink courtesy of the midwives!

Samantha explained: “I got taken in for an induction on Saturday and had to get my waters broke on December 31 at around 9pm, so labour was in full swing come the midnight bells.

“It was the strangest New Year’s Eve celebrations ever as, whilst everyone else was celebrating the turn of the year, our midwife was handing us a soft drink to celebrate 2018 and we were mid-contraction watching the fireworks going off outside the windows! It was all very surreal but we are over the moon he’s here and he’s safe. He’s the most gorgeous, precious little thing I’ve ever laid my eyes on.”
