Conservation chiefs are hoping to attract volunteers in a bid to preserve Lanarkshire’s landscape and heritage.
Clyde and Avon Valley Landscape Partnership (CAVLP) are hoping people will get involved in sites like Chatelherault, Strathclyde Country Park, Mauldslie Woods and Lanark.
The latest figures show that around 130 volunteers contributed nearly 3200 hours over the course of a year.
Kirsten Robb, manager at CAVLP, said: “Local people volunteering with Clyde and Avon Valley projects are making a massive contribution to this wonderful place and can be justifiably proud of what they are achieving.
“The impact is not just on the physical landscape though. Volunteers regularly tell us how much they get out of the experience themselves. We’d like to thank every single volunteer and encourage more people to start on the volunteering journey.”
Volunteers play a crucial role in conserving and celebrating the unique local landscape and culture heritage.
In 2016 alone, a total of around 136 volunteers spent just under 3200 hours improving access, researching historic sites, maintaining heritage features, caring for ancient woodland, and a whole lot more at sites around the area including Chatelherault Country Park, Strathclyde Country Park, Mauldslie Woods and Lanark.
Opportunities are available at Chatelherault Country Park on the following Tuesdays: January 23, February 6 and 20; and March 6 and 20. Clydesdale Community Initiatives and South Lanarkshire Countryside Rangers will be there and need help to construct and install benches and clear debris and non-native species.
