New classes set to begin for youngsters

These youngsters have strumthing to shout about – as their new guitar class starts next week (Thursday, January 18).

The Lanarkshir­e Guitar & Mandolin Associatio­n are beginning a new term of rock and pop classes every week in Trinity Parish Church.

Next Thursday will be the first class of the new term, which will run for 10 weeks.

The associatio­n’s Calum Harbison said: “Did your son or daughter get a nice new guitar for Christmas? Do they need help with learning to play it?

“Lanarkshir­e Guitar & Mandolin Associatio­n are starting a new term of rock and pop guitar classes on Thursday evenings in Trinity Parish Church in Hamilton.

“The classes run for a term of 10 weeks and generally follow the school terms.

“Music ranges from Courteener­s to Clapton, Guns ’n’ Roses to Green Day, Fallout Boy to Foo Fighters and Sheeran to Stone Roses.”

The classes are for young people aged around 11 to 18 from anywhere in the Hamilton area.

This session there will be a class for beginners, one for intermedia­te and one for advanced players. The young people will learn pop and rock music ranging from new bands and artists to older classic rock acts.

There are some places in each of the classes, especially beginners, and anybody interested or needing more informatio­n should contact Calum on 07847 250529 or 01475 721048 as soon as possible.

Participan­ts should have their own guitar (acoustic or electric), but all the learning materials will be provided.

The Lanarkshir­e Guitar & Mandolin Associatio­n is a voluntary organisati­on and has been running a range of music groups for young people in South Lanarkshir­e since 1999.
