local businesses who donated prizes to our charity nights and to thank Lynn Taylor and Megan Thomson from Santander for all their help.”

Speaking about his trek he said: “It was quite a challenge mainly due to the altitude, which really takes its toll on you.

“There was sleep depravation, loss of appetite, headaches, and shortness of breath, which every one of the 25 members of the group suffered during our 18-day trip. In fact, 24 of us successfully reached base camp at 17,601 feet.

“Three of our group needed oxygen and were air-lifted off the mountain by chopper to a safer altitude. The morning after reaching base camp, we were given the option of getting up at 4am to climb Kala Patthar, which stands at 18,513ft.”

Brian has set his sites on a new challenge this year.

He explained: “This November I will be trekking the Sahara Desert raising funds for Diabetes UK .

“As ever, we will be holding various charity events throughout the year, starting with our Hike4hayley 4 where we will be climbing Ben Narnain in Arrochar on Saturday, June 30.”

For more details, contact Hike4hayley on Facebook or email Brian at bthom8465@ gmail.com.
