Choirs are a class act
Udston star in contest
Udston Primary were delighted to be crowned the winners of The Regent Centre School Choir Competition.
The children from P5-P7 worked extremely hard last term, also performing at the Christmas fair in Hillhouse Parish Church and at their own Christmas show for family and friends.
However, they triumphed over 10 other schools to take top spot at the choir competition in the shopping centre.
And that means they also picked up a whopping £500 prize for Udston.
Head teacher Rebecca Turnbull said: “We would like to thank all families and friends of Udston who voted for the choir, and who spread the word in the local community.
“We couldn’t have done it without the support of our school community.
“This term, the children are looking forward to deciding how to spend their winnings!”
Bill Reid, manager of the Regent Centre, said: “The centre was delighted to hold the school choir competition. Now in its fourth year, it has gone from strength to strength.
“All the participating schools put in wonderful performances. They entertained our customers, parents and grandparents and introduced a great Christmas atmosphere in the shopping centre.
“We shouldn’t forget the teachers who have put in valuable time to create the individual choirs and every choir has been a great credit to their schools.
“Voting increased from last year with a total of 12,618 votes being counted, which displays just how much interest was created online, with Udston Primary running out overall winners and receiving a brilliant cash prize of £500.
“One word to sum up the whole event would be ‘fantastic’.”
