Lisa set to be on song in Motherwell show
A successful country singer is to bring her latest album to Motherwell later this year.
Lisa Mchugh was born in Glasgow but now stays in Co Fermanagh in Ireland, and is bringing her fun and lively take on country classics to the Motherwell Town Hall on Friday, March 16. The songstress has six albums under her belt, as well as multiple awards and her own TV show, while her most recent release, Who I Am, shot to the top of the Irish charts. Earlier releases #Country and Wildfire also cracked the top 10, She grew up singing the likes of Dolly Parton, Martina Mcbride and Garth Brooks, while pointing to Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift as more recent influences.
The singer has clearly kept her feet on the ground though.
In an interview with an Irish website, she spoke of the influence her parents, who still live in Scotland, had on her, saying: “I absolutely love being on stage and I like to dream big. “My parents brought us up (her and her siblings) to know that nothing comes easy and we have to work hard to get what we want.”
Her hard work has paid off.
She told the Belfast Telegraph newspaper: “When I realised what I wanted to do I knew I had to make it happen and try - because if I didn’t even try, how would I know if I could succeed or not.
“So much has happened in the six years since I left home - and it has been the best six years of my life.”
She has had tough times offstage too, contracting viral meningitis a couple of years ago.
However she has recovered and her career is blossoming.
In recent years Lisa has released her first DVD #Lisalive, was voted female artist of the year at the inaugural RTÉ Irish Country Music Awards, and embarked on a hugely successful UK tour, topped off with an appearance at the Country 2 Country Festival in London.
She has even won the praise of Daniel O’donnell who said that the talented singer has “dazzled the Irish country music scene with her style, charm and charisma”.
Tickets for the Motherwell gig are priced at £21 and the show will start at 7.30pm.
