Friendly left us in good shape

-

When their Scottish Cup third round replay tie against Dundee Downfield was called off for a seventh time, Wishaw jumped at the chance to fit in a weekend friendly.

That clash against Larkhall Thistle produced a positive build-up ahead of this Saturday’s replay attempt, which manager John Brogan suspects will also fall foul of winter weather.

He said:“the forecast doesn’t sound too optimistic. We have prepared as well as we can for the tie and have no injuries to concern us, so that’s a bonus.” The Wishaw gaffer took in Cambuslang v Larkhall Thistle last week and dropped a hint to Jags boss Duncan Sinclair, which was taken up.

When Wishaw’s game was called off, a mid-morning friendly was quickly arranged on the 3G pitch at Dalziel Sports Club, with the North Lanarkshire side winning 3-1.

Brogan said:“it was a good game – our first since a fortnight before New Year.

“We have been taking in regular training sessions at Beltane, but it was good to get some game-time. We led 3-0 at half-time, then we made six chances in the second half, and Larkhall also made quite a few.”

Vinnie Mcguire netted the opener off a pass from Dan Kindlan.

James Coffey scrambled home a second goal in a packed penalty area, then Dean Kindlan fired in a 30-yarder, described by Brogan as“a magnificent goal”.

Larkhall’s goal was scored by Graham Gracie.

Assistant manager Tom Mclaughlin said:“it was a good, useful exercise.”
