MSP calls for probe into homeless case
Christina Mckelvie MSP was saddened to hear about the plight of Robert.
The representative for Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse said she is now trying to help get him the support that he needs.
Ms Mckelvie (right) said: “I’m grateful for the Hamilton Advertiser for reaching out and alerting me to Robert’s case.
“After hearing his story, I immediately started the process of getting him the help he requires.
“I have contacted the convenor of South Lanarkshire Council’s Housing and Technical Resources Committee to raise my concerns regarding Robert. South Lanarkshire Council have reassured me that they are currently investigating this case.
“I eagerly await the outcome of these investigations and I call upon South Lanarkshire Council to ensure that Robert is provided with all the help and support he requires.”
South Lanarkshire Council’s executive director of Housing and Technical Resources, Daniel Lowe, said that support was provided last September to a rough sleeper, adding: “South Lanarkshire Council is committed to assisting and supporting anyone who finds themselves in a homelessness situation. “The council provides assistance to prevent rough sleeping and will support access to appropriate services.” He added: “Anyone who is faced or threatened with homelessness can contact one of the local housing offices or, if assistance is required out of hours, the council’s homelessness service can be contacted by the 24 hour emergency number 0800 242024.
