STARS ON ROAD OUT
But new signings and fit-again players will lift club
Hamilton Accies could be set to lose two of their top stars to Rangers and another to Preston during the January transfer window.
The club and Rangers were believed to be close to agreeing a £650,000 deal for midfielder Greg Docherty yesterday (Wednesday). And Rangers are also rumoured to be in talks with Ali Crawford with regards to a pre-contract.
It is also believed that terms have been agreed for defender Michael Devlin to join Preston where he will continue his rehab and potentially sign permanently in the summer.
Chairman Ronnie Macdonald (right) said on Wednesday as we went to press that a deal had not yet been done for Docherty – but it was believed to be close.
The 21-year-old midfielder was undergoing a medical and finalising personal terms after the clubs agreed a fee following weeks of speculation.
The structure of the payment and the length of contract was still to be rubberstamped by Rangers chairman Dave King, but it was expected that a deal would go through yesterday (Wednesday).
Meanwhile, Hamilton boss Martin Canning says he is in talks with “two or three” players with regards to signing at the Superseal, one of whom is believed to be striker Mickel Miller, of English Isthman League South club Carshalton Athletic.
The gaffer also hopes to have striker Antonio Rojano back from injury, while defender Giannis Skondras returns from suspension for the home game against Dundee on Saturday.
Canning also said Greek midfielder Chrysovalantis Kozoronis, who received clearance this week, could be involved in the clash against Hearts last night (Wednesday) and Dundee.
He said: “We have Giannis back from suspension on Saturday, Antonio should be back involved, so if we can add two or three to that then numbers start to bulk up again. “We know in this league how important it is to have a full squad to choose from, it can make a real difference on the pitch, so it’s important to get guys back and then add one or two good senior pros to it as well. “Mickel Miller is one we’re looking at, along with two or three other players that we’re speaking with at the minute, so we’re trying to get a couple of bodies in and we’ll wait and see how we go with it. “Kozo will hopefully be involved against Hearts. For Kozo it’s a different style of football. In the middle of the park it will be a lot quicker here than it will be in Greece, so that’s something Kozo has to get up to speed with. You can see the guy is a talented player. “We’re still working away on a couple of things, with players that are here and others who we want to bring in, so hopefully in the next week or two we can tidy one or two things up.”
