Make sure property is kept secure

-

Over the last few weeks we have had a number of thefts from the Blantyre and Uddingston area.

In relation to Uddingston, we have had thefts from Crofthill Avenue, Gardenside Avenue, Kylepark Drive and an attempt at Knockburnie Gardens.

Items stolen include, phones, brief cases and handbags. The most recent incidents occurred at Main Street, where entry was forced to a flat and again at Kylepark, on February 19 where a Mini one car and a Jaguar Xtype were stolen.

We have a description of a man, described as white, of slim build, aged 25 to 30, pointed chin and nose, wearing dark clothing and a grey tammy hat and speaking with a local accent.

Blantyre incidents started on February 11, at noon on Station Road, when a man broke into an insecure vehicle parked on the drive and stole a portable DVD player. The suspect attempted to steal car keys, however, the householder was at home and chased the suspect away.

The same day again at 7.30pm in Burns Gardens, Blantyre, a male suspect rummaged through an insecure vehicle on the driveway before entering the house, which was also insecure, stealing a ladies’ handbag which was recovered along the road the following morning.

At 1.20am on February 14, a man was observed on Farm Road, Blantyre trying door handles to properties. The same day between 4.30pm and 9.30pm on Dalcraig Crescent, Blantyre, a suspect entered the property through an insecure rear door, removed the vehicle keys and stole a VW Caddy works van, which was also full of tools. The vehicle has been recovered. Tools have been stolen to the value of around £3000.

At 7.10pm on February 15, a male suspect was observed in the rear garden of another property on Station Road, Blantyre. He entered the kitchen through an insecure rear door but was stopped by residents and ran away. The same day at 7.15pm, also on Station Road, a suspect entered a property via an insecure rear door, removed vehicle keys from the kitchen and stole a black Nissan Qashqai to the value of £6000. This has not yet been recovered.

In relation to these matters, we are looking for a white male, aged 30 to 40 with short dark hair, approximately 5ft 8ins tall, wearing a grey tracksuit. In relation to both of these areas, I would urge all residents to ensure they keep their property secure.

Police have arrested a 16-yearold male for allegedly attempting to break into vehicles and houses at Copperwood Wynd on Friday evening and a 15-year-old has been identified for allegedly breaking into a barber’s in Quarry Street on February 13. Reports have been sent in relation to both matters.

We are also appealing for information in relation to a black Nissan Nivara car which was set on fire outside Clydesdale Avenue, Hamilton, at 1am on Sunday. A man was seen running away from the vehicle.

If you have any information, contact the police using 101, or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
