Hillhouse has happy swappers

- Kirsten Mcstay

Hillhouse Community Hub launched their first official swap shop as taster sessions were proving to be extremely popular.

Based on the success over the last few months, Community Links decided to make the swap shop a permanent fixture at the centre.

Community Links have received loads of donations of clothing, shoes and accessories and are grateful for everyone’s generosity.

Community development worker Jacqueline Queen said: “We have been testing the need for a swap shop for the last few months and it has proved to be extremely popular.

“The idea of a swap shop is fairly simple; we have received loads of donations of clothing items, shoes and accessories from the kind people within the communities we work in, and we are now offering these items to local people in Hillhouse and Fairhill.

“Although it’s not necessary, everyone is welcome to bring along an item of clothing and swap it for something else that’s available.

“Donations are also welcome, which helps with the running costs for the project.

“You may also want to consider volunteering for an hour or two at the hub or the cafe.”

The Hillhouse swap shop takes place on the first Thursday of every month and the Fairhill swap shop takes place on the first Monday of every month.

Anyone who wants to donate clothing or household items can contact Community Links on (01698) 827583 or visit www. facebook.com/communitylinkssl.

The next swap shop is on today (Thursday) at Hillhouse Community Hub from 11am until 3pm.
