Pals raise cash for kids’ fund Two-hour ice marathon
Two St Mary’s Primary School pupils took to the ice to raise money for the Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).
Leah Mcginty and Nicole Baird, both 9, skated non-stop for two hours at Lanarkshire Ice Rink on Saturday, raising £600.
Leah’s mum Lesley explained: “Our friends very sadly lost a baby recently and they received incredible support from Robin House children’s hospice, and still are.
“It has naturally touched us all but following a school assembly in the lead-up to Lent, where they asked the children to think of others and ways to help others, Leah took action and decided she’d like to raise money for CHAS by doing a sponsored ice skate.
“She has raised an amazing £600 through donations from our family and friends.
“Leah and her friend Nicole, who accompanied her for the skate, rose to the challenge and were absolutely brilliant.
“They loved it and even got a mention near the end of the session where everyone stopped skating and gave the girls a round of applause. They had sore legs on Sunday though.”
She added: “Our friends were delighted with the girls’ efforts. They were also very grateful and touched that Leah came up with this idea whilst raising a great amount of money for the charity that has supported them so much.
“They feel the money will go a long way towards helping other families in a similar situation to them.”
