Online hit Erin stars in festival spotlight

And she is learning new happy songs

- Kirsten Mcstay

Singing sensation Erin Lappin was over the moon to be asked to perform at the Bothwell Scarecrow Festival this year.

Just before Christmas Erin melted hearts with her rendition of Ruth B’s Peter Paninspired hit ‘Lost Boy’, which was viewed over 13,000 times on Facebook.

And the seven-year-old was delighted when organisers of the popular festival got in touch with her mum Michelle to see if she would like to perform at the annual Bothwell Scarecrow Festival.

Michelle said: “Joe, who is the festival organiser, messaged me asking if Erin would like to perform this year.

“I asked her after school and she was delighted. She said she’s going to learn some happy songs to sing and that she feels like a celebrity.

“I am delighted for her. She’s had issues with her confidence and to see her coming on like this is amazing. We’re all excited to see what her future holds.”

Erin, who is in primary three at St Bride’s, loves to perform for friends and family as well as at her school’s annual talent show.

Michelle said: “She’s busy practicing hard for her Reconciliation at school. That’s in March.”

Deputy chairman of the festival Joe Mulholland said: “The Scarecrow Festival is all about showcasing everything that is good about Bothwell.

“We have been spoiled with some of the local talent over the years, including the young gentleman Nicholas Mcdonald who has supported the festival on numerous occasions.

“I’m positive that Erin will also be a huge success.”

This years festival is from September 8-16 and various musicians will be taking part. We are super excited that Erin will be performing for us.”

Festival events will be spread around various venues in the village.
