Six athletic pupils from Larkhall Academy competed for their school.

They took part in the Scottish Schools Athletics Indoor Championsh­ips at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow on February 7 and 8.

Emma Young (S3) had two good runs in the 60m and 200m.

Ross Mitchell (S4) was due to compete in two events but could not run the 200m due to illness.

He was determined to run the 60m and had a good run in his heat but was not placed.

Thomas Watson (S4) achieved a personal best of 4:36 in the 1500m and also ran a strong race in the 800m.

Sol Stewart (S4) won the silver medal in the U16 200m and also won the gold medal in the 300m. Sol set a new championsh­ip record in this event with a time of 37.78 seconds.

Alexander Young (S5) won the bronze medal in the over16 200m and also the silver medal in the 60m, matching his personal best of 7.17 seconds.

Now in S5 at Larkhall Academy, Alexander is one of a small group of pupils in Scotland who have been involved in Scottish Schools Athletics every year since S1.

A spokespers­on for the academy said: “During Alexander’s time competing he has won a medal every year.

“He has now won 12 Scottish schools medals.”

David Lees (S6) took fourth place in the over-16s shot put event.
