David Templeton was the hero as Hamilton bagged their first three points of 2018, leap-frogged Partick Thistle, arrested a run of five straight defeats – and hopes it can send them on a run.

The winger struck inside stoppage-time to clinch a valuable three points, with Gary Woods making a world-class save from Chris Erskine to deny Thistle a point, and he hopes it can help send Accies up the Premiershi­p table.

Deep into stoppage time Dougie Imrie sent young Lewis Ferguson racing down the left and he got to the bye-line before cutting the ball back to Antonio Rojano. When his shot was brilliantl­y parried by Tomas Cerny, David Templeton was on hand to sweep it into the net.

He said: “I actually thought Rojano’s shot was going in to start with, but Cerny has managed to get across and make a good save, and I just had to be on my toes, to make sure that if he did get there it was coming to me.

“I was going to hit it first time, but Cerny was up quite quickly and was going to block it, so I thought I had to take the touch round him, and thankfully I managed to put it in the corner.

“It wasn’t a nice game, two teams just kind of matched each other and made it difficult to play, and for me it was nice to get the winning goal and get a massive three points that we badly needed.
