Ladies who lunch can help Haven raise cash

- Leona Greenan

A driver caught while more than four times over the drink limit has been fined £750 at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

Craig Mcdiarmid (31), of Weavers Lane, Glassford, was also disqualified from driving for one year.

He admitted having a breath/alcohol reading of 98 – the limit is 22 – when driving on Strathaven Road, Hamilton, on February 11. Ladies from all over Lanarkshire will come together to support and raise funds for The Haven later this month.

The charity – which has bases in Blantyre, Forth and Wishaw – provides help to individuals, families and carers who have been affected by a wide range of life-limiting illnesses, such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, Huntington’s disease and dementia.

This year, the organisers are hoping to smash their fundraising target at the first ladies’lunch since 2012 and are calling on people from across the county to help them achieve this and ensure the event is a fixture in the diary for years to come.

The lunch, which is taking place in the Double Tree By Hilton Strathclyde on Sunday, March 25, will be hosted by radio personality Suzie Mcguire, with special guests The Ultimate Jersey Boys.

It will be a day filled with fun, laughter, good food and fizz.

There will be a range of stalls selling handbags, jewellery and lots more as well as the chance to win a number of prizes at auction and raffle. June Sutherland, services manager at The Haven said:“not only will the lunch be an excellent day out, you will also be helping to change the lives of those affected by life-limiting illnesses.

“In 2015, we embarked on a successful expansion of Haven services which increased our capacity to support even more client groups across Lanarkshire.

“We now operate three Haven centres located in Blantyre, Wishaw and, most recently, Forth.

“The demand for our support services will only continue to increase and this event will help us to raise much-needed funds that will ensure we are able to offer help to those who need it.”

The Haven’s multidisciplinary team of nurses, therapists and volunteers deliver the charity’s award-winning model of care, providing emotional and practical support to individuals, families and carers enabling them to live fulfilled lives with hope no matter the diagnosis or prognosis.

Tickets cost £29.50 per person and this includes a welcome glass of fizz, two course lunch with a glass of wine and tea or coffee.
