‘A great honour.. a positive experience’
South Lanarkshire has become a place to live and work for many of the new citizens.
Lee Choong (39), from Cambuslang, attended the ceremony with his wife Jualyn (39) and their three children.
He has been living in Scotland for 10 years and now works in IT for a firm in Hamilton.
Originally from Malaysia, he was delighted to receive his citizenship, and he said: “It is a fantastic feeling. My wife and children are all citizens, and now I can be the same as them. It brings our family together.”
Sanjevan Sihra (34), of East Kilbride, moved to the area from Kenya.
She said: “It is a great honour and it’s been a really positive experience.”
Ines Coelho (33), from Portugal, has lived in Britain for just over six years.
She said: “The citizenship has given me a little more security, especially just now with Brexit.”
