Teacher talks to town’s Rotarians
The Rotary Club of Hamilton met last Thursday, March 15.
Members were entertained by speaker Derek Hotchkiss, whose talk was called‘from Larkhall to Auckland: A Life in Teaching’.
He had“a plethora of entertaining anecdotes” from his first post as a new teacher in Larkhall in 1982. From there, he held appointments in Strathaven, Airdrie and Lanark, before joining Hamilton College, where he has been the head of the English department for the last seven years.
His reference to Auckland was the occasion of Hamilton College’s participation in an international school quiz held in New Zealand, following their win in the national competition at home.
A spokesperson for the club said:“following Mr Hotchkiss’s presentation, Rotarians added to the evening’s entertainment by asking questions and elaborating on the presentation by supplying personal anecdotes, which provided much hilarity.”
Rotarians meet at Hamilton Golf Club on Thursdays at 6.45pm.
