Burns comp hailed huge success

Hamilton Burns Club were delighted with the success of their recent verse speaking competitio­n.

Organised on behalf of the club by John Sleith, the event was open to all primary schools in Hamilton.

And every youngster performed well at the competitio­n.

The primary 4/5 winner was Alex Macdonald of Woodside Primary School with Willie Wastle. Scott Forrest, of Townhill Primary School, was the runner-up with Epitaph on Holywillie.

And the primary 6/7 winner was Kona Whitelaw of Hamilton College Junior School with Such a Parcel of Rogues in a Nation. Anna Hutchison of Woodside Primary School was the runner-up with The Twa Dogs.

The judges, who had the difficult task of choosing the winners, included past presidents of the Burns Club, Jack Baillie, Jim Orr and John Martin.

Prizes and certificat­es were presented by the president Douglas Cook.

The winners and runners-up will now go through to the Lanarkshir­e finals, which will be held in St Aidan’s High School, Wishaw on Tuesday, March 27.
