Bookworms have a ball

-

Bookworms at Chapelton Primary School joined youngsters across the country in celebrating World Book Day – albeit a little later than planned.

The Beast from the East meant the annual event had to be rescheduled from March 1 but the kids had a great time nonetheless.

Head teacher Mairi Mitchell said:“the children really enjoyed themselves and loved the fact Irene Mcalpine from education resources came along and read to both classes.

“Pupils also brought in a pre-loved book and had a book exchange meaning they all had something new to read that evening.

“They also started reading a new book with their reading partners and all brought in a teddy or a soft toy.”

Ms Mitchell added:“we always celebrate World Book Day but changed things around a little this year. Reading is an important part of life at Chapelton and we also take part in initiatives like the First Minister’s Reading Challenge.”
