A racing certainty

- Shirley Bartynek

A Hamilton mum is set to walk her sister down the aisle after shedding over eight stones.

Jamie Mcdougall, of Burnbank, lost the staggering weight in just one year.

The mum-of-two weighed in at 18st 7lbs and has now dropped to 9st stones 12lbs.

And after losing 8st 9lbs it means Jamie’s dress size has plummeted from a size 20 to a 10.

With her 30th birthday approaching – combined with her sister Wendy’s big day – she realised it was time to try and do something about her weight.

Jamie said: “I joined Slimming World in February Hamilton Park Racecourse has scooped a top industry award.

The venue picked up the title of Best Small Racecourse in Scotland and The North from the Racegoers Club, the official supporters’ club for British racing fans.

It recognises the racecourse for going above and beyond to ensure a great customer experience across five categories – viewing experience, facilities, food and beverage, atmosphere and value for money.

Vivien Currie, chief executive at Hamilton Park, said: “We always strive to be the best that we can be and not only is this recognition from the Racegoers Club a great honour, it has set the bar for the upcoming season.

“We have some fantastic action coming up both on and off the track, with the Silk Series weaving its way to the racecourse and household names like Dermot O’leary and Heather Small taking to the stage.

“What’s more, we’ve invested a further £250,000 in our customer facilities ahead of the season launch in May, when we’ll be welcoming Scotland’s national chef Gary Maclean to the racecourse.

“You could say the bid to retain this award has already begun!”
