MEET SCOTLAND’S WORST SINGER...
James is all set for his bigtv appearance
A Hamilton man who scooped first place on the hit TV show Come Dine With Me will be back on our screens this weekend.
James Kane, of Earnock, is set to star on the new ITV show Change Your Tune.
He will represent Scotland on the programme which aims to take the worst singers in Britain and give them vocal training to see if they can “change their tune”.
James, a teacher at St Charles’ Primary School, in Cambuslang, said: “I was actually looking online to apply to go on The Chase but when I noticed the applications for this one, I thought I would give it a go.
“It was a wonderful experience and such good fun.
“I got accepted as the sole Scottish representative, so I can officially be considered Scotland’s worst singer!”
James, appeared last year on the hit show Come Dine With Me and put Hamilton firmly on the map with his menu, which was tailored around the area.
He scooped first place on the popular Channel Four programme to win the cash prize of £1000.
However, this Sunday sees James step away from his cooking skills to show off his singing.
James joked: “I have been known to visit a few Hamilton bars and have a go on the karaoke on many an occasion, and I think I can really sing, but it’s just a shame that everyone around me thinks I’m murder.
“The show sees you go up against other contestants and I was given the Aerosmith song I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.
“I had a really great vocal coach, Gillian Mclaren Scott, who spent lots of time giving me intensive training and one-to-one tuition. She even popped round to the school a few times and I performed in front of the children.
“I really loved being part of it. It was light-hearted, a bit cheesy but aspirational.
“You’ll just have to tune in on Sunday night to see if I win or not.”
Change Your Tune first aired two weeks ago and is a singing game show hosted by Baz Ashmawy.
It challenges five terrible singers to improve their voices before performing in front of a live studio audience.
The time-lapse format of the show means viewers will get to see the transformations from awful singer to polished performer in an instant.
Then the studio audience will score each performance and the level of improvement, ultimately deciding who has ‘Changed Their Tune’ the most.
Each week, the winning contestant will walk away with a cash prize. The show airs at 4pm on Sunday.
