Putting the heart back in Hamilton
Hamilton’s parliamentarians Christian Mckelvie MSP and Angela Crawley MP were this week delighted by the latest proposals.
In a joint statement, Ms Mckelvie and Ms Crawley said:“the proposed re-development of the Hamilton Town Hotel is yet another excellent example of how the heart is being put back into Hamilton.
“This proposal will bring jobs, investment and opportunity to our constituents, which is exactly what we hoped to achieve in the ‘Our Town, Your Voice’ town centre report.
“With an SNP Scottish Government and an SNP administration in South Lanarkshire Council, we are starting to see momentum building behind the campaign to regenerate Hamilton’s town centre.
“This development is in addition to the proposal to bring Weatherspoons to Hamilton, the new UWS Campus and South Lanarkshire Council’s recently announced 24-point plan for the town centre.”
Last week a public meeting was held to discuss the future of the town centre.
The event aimed to build on the Our Town, Your Voice report recommendations from Ms Mckelvie and Ms Crawley, and offered an insight into the council’s 24-point plan strategy.
It also outlined plans to bring vacant ground back into use.
