Wishaw prepare for historic cup clash

-

Wishaw are gearing up for an historic tie on Saturday as they face Hurlford United in the Scottish Junior Cup semi-final first leg at the Beltane Stadium.

Boss Derek Holmes hopes for a big crowd that will get right behind his side.

Holmes said: “We realise it will be a difficult tie, but we’re all looking forward to it, and hoping for a good, supportive turn-out.

“The players have been turning in some good performances in the cup and the league, and they realise that they must give 100 per cent effort and good play, and hope they can get the right result.”

Wishaw have a slight injury doubt over Paul Mcgeoch, who has a foot knock.

The county side prepared for their big clash by beating Port Glasgow 3-1 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in the Central League Cup second round.

Holmes said: “It was a good victory from a scrappy game, under difficult conditions at Port Glasgow, after we agreed to switch the venue.

“After a no-scoring 90 minutes, the tie went to penalties, which we won 3-1.

“James Coffey, Craig Crawford and KB Grant scored, while Sandy Thomson saved two spot-kicks.”

Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie kicks-off at 2.30pm.
