Hopes that this lavish television take on the classic tale could better the ropey Brad Pitt-led 2004 movie are sadly dashed.
The set design and props defy its smallscreen budget as it certainly looks the part. However, the acting ranges from passable to wooden and the sparse battle scenes are a world away from Game of Thrones’ epic scraps.
