It was another busy week on the Hamilton Advertiser’s Facebook page.

One story that many of our readers commented on was about the plans to demolish a town centre “eyesore” and make way for a £7million hotel.

Premier Inn lodged plans with South Lanarkshire Council to flatten the derelict Hamilton Town Hotel, with a view to building a 96-bedroom hotel and Beefeater restaurant on the Townhead Street site.

Jay Farmer said: “as long as it looks better than the absolute mess down there, then go ahead!”

Barry Martin posted: “this perhaps will bring more people into the town centre, thus putting money into the local economy? I’m not saying it’s the definitive answer, but that combined with the proposed Wetherspoons is encouraging, as we should be welcoming any investment into the town at present, particularly with the shambolic parking policies which councillors should be looking at.”

Lynda Hamilton Stevenson commented: “go for it. Bring back Hamilton to its former glory when people actually wanted to visit the town!”
