ON THE BEAT Appeal for information after thefts

-

In last week’s article Sergeant Mcleish discussed the illegal use of quad bikes.

In furtherance to that, over the last week, we have taken action against individuals engaging in this type of activity.

On April 25 a 28-year-old man was charged with alleged road traffic offences and had his off-road bike seized, and on April 27 a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old were also charged with alleged similar offences.

We have had a number of thefts over the past week, and I would appeal for information in relation to these.

At 11.15pm on April 27, outside Woodview Terrace, Hamilton, a white Ford Transit was stolen and about 3am on April 28 a blue Ford Focus was stolen from Ewart Gardens.

This vehicle was subsequently involved in a crash in Woodlea Drive, Hamilton.

In addition on April 25, in May Gardens, Hamilton, a house was broken into and items of jewellery were stolen.

Just after midnight on May 1 we had a report of four prowlers trying car doors in Shiel Drive, Larkhall.

The suspects were wearing tracksuits and had their faces covered.

About 1.30am on April 26, we had reports of males attempting to steal from parked lorries at Bothwell Services.

A number of officers attended and two men, aged 31 and 30 were arrested.

Last Monday evening, I attended a passing out parade for the Police Scotland Youth volunteers.

Volunteers Programme gives young people aged 10 to 18, an insight into policing in Scotland and inspires them to participate positively in their communities.

Among other things, PSYV in Scotland aim to promote an understanding of policing amongst all young people, give young people a change to be heard and to support local policing priorities through volunteering.

I was extremely impressed with the work done by the group and would strongly encourage anyone of the appropriate age to consider joining.

Further information can be found by visiting the Police Scotland Youth Volunteers page in the recruitment section of the Police Scotland website.

You can also follow their social media pages for the most up to date information: Facebook – www. facebook.com/psyvpolicescotland Twitter - @POLSCOTPSYV Youtube – Police Scotland Youth Volunteers.
