A Dutch of class for boys’ team
Vics are off to Rotterdam
Young footballers from Blantyre Vics 2007s will fly to the Netherlands this spring to participate in a top football festival.
The trip has been made possible after the team – along with their coaches, parents, family and friends – raised over £4500 at a variety of events.
Players took part in a sponsored walk and sold football calendars, while a race night featured some welcome donations from Lanarkshire businessmen and women.
The race night, held at Blantyre Vics Club, attracted over 100 people who all dug deep to help send the boys to the annual Olympia Festival at the home of Feyenoord Football Club in Rotterdam.
And the coaches, Alan Mcdonald, David Anderson, Robin Cook and Steve Rushbury were delighted with the response to the race night.
The team will stay in Amsterdam and play in Rotterdam, and Alan told the Advertiser this week: “To see so many friends and family of the boys come along to support our team was fantastic.
“There was a great atmosphere throughout the night and people were so generous buying tickets, raffles and purchasing some fabulous auction items.
“A huge thank you to everyone who attended all of our fundraisers, or who contributed to them by providing sponsorship, donations, raffle and auction prizes.
“We couldn’t have smashed our £4000 target without your support.
“Now we are training hard and continuing to play some fantastic football in our league ahead of our trip to Amsterdam/rotterdam.”
With dozens of youth football teams from all over Europe descending on Rotterdam, the festival is top quality.
Money raised from the various fundraisers has covered the cost of the boys’ accommodation, food, tracksuits, kit bags, and a new full strip.
Alan also added: “Whilst we have attended many tournaments and festivals here in Scotland, this will be our first trip abroad with the boys – and certainly one they will always remember.
“These boys have been together since they were five-years-old and are a fantastic squad of boys and football players.
“We’re relishing taking them to the festival and know they will do Blantyre Vics Football Club, and the whole of the Blantyre community, extremely proud.”
