Thought for a May day

I guess that few if any got up at the crack of dawn on Tuesday morning to wash their face in the May dew.

However, there is an old saying which promises that“the plainest girl will be beautiful if she rises early on May Day and bathes her face in morning dew at sunrise”.

Unfortunately, the results were only guaranteed for a year and had to be repeated. Still that is a lot less taxing (and a lot less expensive) than many modern beauty treatments. Is true beauty, however, not“in the eye of the beholder”, and should it not be more than merely“skin deep”?

Jesus spoke of this when he said, “It’s not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes from your heart … out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.“

Men it is said“look on the outward appearance”, but there is one who searches the heart. He looks upon a person created in His own image and recognizing one of His children, He loves them with all of His heart. The May dew may be said to guard against spots, lines and freckles; but our skin acts as a waterproof barrier which prevents it from tackling the deeper seated blemishes. To tackle these, we must let the love of God fill our heart and then allow its beauty to radiate for all to see. Biblical quotes from 1 Samuel 16:7 and Mark 7: 14 and 21.
