£150K FOR CHURCH
Hamilton West & Earnock Cadzow Parish Church awarded major grants
Parishioners at a Hamilton church are celebrating after it received funding windfalls totalling £150,000.
Cadzow Parish Church, on Woodside Walk, has received a £100,000 grant through funding body, WREN, as well as £50,000 from Viridor Credits. The £100,000 was awarded through WREN’S FCC Scottish Action Fund, and will be used to restore stained glass windows, replace woodwork and improve drainage at the Category B Listed building. WREN is a not-for-profit organisation that awards grants for community, biodiversity and heritage projects from funds donated by FCC Environment through the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund. WREN grant manager, Sophie The Friends of Cadzow Glen group will hold a planting / wildlife event and AGM on Sunday, May 20. The planting session will be held at 3pm at the poplars wildlife area in the glen next to Hamilton Townhouse. This will be followed by the AGM at 4pm under Cadzow Bridge. All welcome. The church will use award from Viridor undertake stonework renovation works.
Reverend John Carswell, minister of Cadzow, says he believes “the work will go a long way to preserving a key historic building in the heart of Hamilton.”
He added: “The church has supported local residents for 140 years and we will continue to do so in our building made fit for the future. We thank WREN and Viridor for recognising the value of the work we want to do.”
A new music arts centre will also be established to welcome a range of community groups and develop choirs, creating a new practice and performance base for the community, in addition to developing use of the building’s historic organ. the £50,000 Credits to repairs and
